The Art of Resting
Restorative Teacher Training
Led by Chanti Tacoronte-Perez
Learn the art of observation and support thru the practices of restorative yoga. This teacher training will give you the skills necessary to incorporate restorative yoga into your practice and classes. Restorative yoga offers the assistance of props to hold the body; when the body is held it learns to release and rest, making room for healing. This training is for yoga teachers, healthcare professionals, and dedicated students alike.
Focus of Training:-What is restorative yoga: the restorative environment and the restorative yoga gems.

-Sympathetic & Parasympathetic: creating the space and mind set for parasympathetic unfoldment.

-Breath awareness: how to breathe in restorative postures, and how you can use the breath, to appease apprehensive or anxious students.

-Guided Relaxation Techniques: learn specific tools to support an active mind, and those students that are not used to being still, or new to restorative yoga.

-Observations in different bodies: learning to look at the student first, adaptation of various postures.

-Trusting your Self: sensation of your own body, to make or not make adjustments.

-Postural adaptations for pregnancy: learning poses that you add to any of your regular yoga classes to support expecting mothers.

-Private students- How to work individually with a student, taking a basic “student history“ (physical, medical and emotional) and using it to decide which postures will be more effective.

-Your own Restorative practice: knowledge is best from the source. Learn to create a personal restorative practice, to be a better teacher, and to retain ojas!

-Savasana: The importance of full relaxation in each yoga class.

“Restorative yoga slowed down my thoughts and helped me connect with my heart.”

About Chanti:

Chanti’s passion is to inspire students to rediscover their creative self through personal inquiry, effortlessness, ritual, sangha, and sadhana. She has been studying and teaching yoga in the Sri Viddya linage since 2005 and has studied Restorative Yoga & the practical applications of yoga therapy with Judith Lasater. In 2015, she completed her Master’s degree at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Humanities with an emphasis on Depth Psychology and is currently pursuing her doctorate. Chanti believes that creativity is one of the essential tools in guiding students towards living a joyous and purposeful life. She weaves traditional teachings, creativity while honoring the voice of the ancestors, to explore the soul.

This is not a training. It’s an immersion. It’s not a place to come, sit on a mat or cushion, take copious notes and maybe reference them again. It’s a place to come and steep in the practice of intentional and supported stillness. To soak it in. To feel it in your body, mind, heart, and soul, and in that way trust it, and come into deeper and more respected relationship with it.
It is about the power of rest, anchored in restorative yoga.

Restorative Yoga offers opportunities to rest our bodies, process emotions, release tension, and find clarity on the mat. The result is often a more integrated connection to the self, more ease+ energy, and a greater sense of wellbeing.

Restorative Yoga is a subtle and chill practice that requires a different approach than more active styles. Yoga teachers and students of yoga of all traditions are invited to attend this immersion in order to deeply experience, and in that way learn, more about this nurturing, nourishing style of yoga that is beneficial for all.

Designed to feel like a retreat, over the course of the weekend you will experience, learn, and embody:

  • What Restorative Yoga is and how it differs from other forms/styles of yoga.
  • How restorative yoga is powerful and revolutionary.
  • Sequencing for restorative yoga, timing, and length of holds for your everyday+ real life
  • Restorative poses and how to modify for your body and holding patterns
  • Uncovering your personal relationship to rest and how it impacts your wellbeing
  • How restorative yoga supports the nervous system
  • How to practice restorative- like poses when you have minimal props and limited time
  • Why Restorative Yoga is both powerful squad care and self care
  • The art of holding space for yourself and others

But wait, I’m a teacher. Will I know how to teach restorative yoga after this? You’ll be introduced to the basics of how to share restorative yoga in the most experiential way possible. You will come and be cared for while taking really good care of yourself. You’ll also receive 11 hours of CEU credits if you’d like to.

Um, I’m a student is this a teacher training? It’s not a teacher training. It’s an immersive experience which means we’ll dive much deeper than we have space and time to in a regularly scheduled class. It’s a place for both serious students and teachers of yoga to practice restorative yoga, chill, and rest.

The Winter Solstice is the longest day of darkness in the year. It is also a day where earth and sun become still with one another before earth begins to move back toward the light.

Join us to celebrate the solstice, holiday season, and arrival of winter through candlelit yin/restorative yoga, live music, chanting, and meditation.

Class will start with a powerful Mantra repetition, then move into silence, before setting our intentions. After intention setting we will practice releasing, resting, and letting go through a yin/restorative practice designed for all levels. During practice, we will explore the theme of healing through imagery and poetry related to the Solstice.

Beyond dedicated moments of silence, the sound in the practice will be the enchanting live music of Jon’s Guitar, Tibetan bowls and flute.

We will end our practice with an extended Sound Bath during savasana, followed by closing mantra and chants.

This practice is a chance to step away from the busyness of the holiday season and reflect on the past year, let go of any attachments, cleanse and prepare ourselves to welcome a new year with an open heart and a clear mind.

This practice will rebalance the mind, body, and soul as we move through the heart of the holiday season and into a new year.

About our sound therapist:April J. Taylor, MPH, CTBP
Sound & Energy Practitioner
April Taylor is passionate about the power of sound and she is guided by a mission committed to creating healthy, balanced, meditating people who embrace justice and promote healthy communities. In her sound therapy sessions, April creates peaceful conditions to reduce stress, foster deep levels of relaxation and to advance the mind-body toward inner harmony for self-Soul-alignment. A life-long learner, April initially sought sound to reduce stress and lessen physical discomfort. Consequently, having a desire to further understand the indigenous approaches of sound harmonics, she delved into rigorous practicum focusing on the science of neuro-acoustics. As a result, her sound repertoire is anchored in the Gong as a focal point of her practice. April has been invited to lead sound meditations at the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the Phoenix & Dragon Bookstore, the Natural Mystic Fair, Sevananda Natural Foods Market, the International Montessori Academy, the Ahimki Wellness Center, the Dekalb County Jail, Nature’s Garden Tuskegee Healing Arts Festival and she speaks regularly on WRFG 89.3 radio about the power of sound. She has a growing clientbase who benefit from her unique sessions. You can often find her at Sevananda Natural Foods Market where she regularly hosts well attended sound meditations.

Power To Rest

April 25, 2018
What is your relationship with power, {to} power, {around}power?
Power isn’t simply force and it’s not something to be wielded toward or against others. It’s something to cultivate, plus tune into from the inside out so that we can show up in the world literally turned on, lit, and vibrant.

Ready to believe in and activate your power {even more}?
Seeking to balance effort, ease, strength, softness, force, and being in the flow in order to better understand where your personal power truly comes from?
Need to reconnect or restore your sense of trust in your power?

This is your place. This is your practice. Now is your time.

We will energize the physical and energetic bodies using accessible breathing techniques. Through breath, we’ll fuel our inner fire, and then dive deep into our core strength {I’m not just talking abs, though we’ll engage them plenty!} with an intentional dynamic flow to strengthen and steady. Finally, we will solidify and savor all the power we harness by closing with a series of long held, supported , and softening + sweet restorative postures – immediately stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (the system of rest and recovery).

With this integration you will tap into the essence of your power and sense, deep in your bones, how rest is essential to the cultivation of sustainable power.

April Awakening {Challenge}: Begins Sunday April 2, 2018

Did you begin the year with intention, clarity, and the best laid plans to create powerful shifts and make this the year that you awakened to the depth + vastness of your life/potential… or something like that— {ha}!Only to have the day-to-day, real life, hustle and bustle, old stories and habits… or just the natural desire to stay in and keep warm during winter take over that intention?

We understand.

Awakening to the life we want and deserve doesn’t come from will alone. It doesn’t come from force, or from berating ourselves for our inability to “just make it happen.”

We believe it does come from intention, action, commitment, and being in supported+ accountable community. This needs to happen consistently.

The earth is awakening, now. The youth are awakening, now. Culturally, an awakening is called for and coming-

Or even more basic- We are personally awakening to a little bit of a “whew, wait, the year is almost one fourth of the way gone moment “ and we want to BE in the moment, consciously creating what we desire vs. look back and wonder where the time went.

Welcome to our April AWAKENING {challenge}

Do you have to come everyday? No. Awakening does require focus, intentionality and commitment. You’ll practice at least four times a week and so will we.

Do you have to be “good” at yoga? Nope. Just willing to try practices that might not be your jam. Everyone has a speed that feels natural to him or her. You may always be drawn to yin yoga. During our Awakening, we invite you to Flow and Be Still. Always want to “go hard” and move and move and move? We invite you to be still in restorative class or to meditate.

Awakening happens in unexpected places.

Do you have to like meditation? Nada. But study after study and real life stories continue to prove that meditation is GOOD for all of us and we recommend you practice it at least once a week with Meryl.
Do you have to show up for yourself? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. This may mean choosing your practice vs. sending one more email some days.

The details:

Official start is April 2 at 6:15pm in Meryl’s Meditation Class.

• Practice 4 times a week. (Unlimited month included in the price for nonmembers) following the schedules below OR email us at We’ll be happy to help you sort through your schedule to create a 4 times a week schedule that works for your life!

About Shonali:
Shonali has been singing and dancing since she first wiggled her way out of the womb. From the moment she could reach the keys, she studied classical piano. She received her B.F.A. in Drama from Syracuse University in 1996. Upon moving to NYC in 1998, Shonali found solace, strength and profound expansion through yoga and chanting. These practices supported Shonali while she was shifting away from the world of acting. In 2002, after a bicycle accident, Shonali quit her stressful job in downtown Manhattan, and still recovering from injuries, completed Alan Finger’s 500 hour ISHTA yoga teacher training program. She became Director of ISHTA’s Yoga Teacher Training programs. During this period, Shonali sang with a group of wise earth-honoring soul-seekers actively exploring chants from a multitude of traditions. Shonali apprenticed as an herbalist in the Wise Woman Tradition furthering a long-standing connection to the natural world, aligning herself with the natural cycles of the seasons & the moon. After moving to Paris, France in 2004, Shonali studied therapeutics & women’s health with the illustrious TKV Desikachar and taught private yoga full time. In 2005, Shonali began teaching prenatal yoga. Shonali relocated to Atlanta in 2010 and soon thereafter completed a second 500 hour training with the Pranakriya Yoga school and is now a certified Yoga Therapist. Shonali teaches regularly at local yoga studios and offers private yoga sessions to any and all who are curious about yoga and it’s healing potential. You’ll find Shonali chanting mystical songs & harmonies in the vibrant Atlanta chanting community and until 2017 in a beautiful partnership called Mantra MA! Shonali supports Centering Youth, a non-profit bringing yoga to under-served populations throughout Atlanta.
In perpetual gratitude to the many phenomenal teachers who have inspired her: her students, her family, Alan Finger, TKV Desikachar, Carrie Wykoff, Robin Rose Bennett, Rachel Zinman, Erich Schiffman, Mark Whitwell, Hillary Cohen, Tias Little, Marlysa Sullivan, Yoganand Michael Carroll, among others! … Namaste.

SoundMind: yoga, cello, meditation

Open to Grace

SoundMind combines yoga and the full, resonant sounds of live cello to create a powerful and soul stirring class experience. The gentle instruction, sounds and vibrations emanating from the cello have been known to guide students to new depths in their practice.

Charisse, who is 4 months into recovery from surgery on her achilles tendon has been exploring grace a lot lately, and is bringing this lens to her teaching and practice on and off the mat. This edition of SoundMind will use the theme of “grace” as a tool to help us approach our practice with positive self-talk, less perfectionism, more patience and compassion.

SoundMind is an all-levels classical yoga class that welcomes and encourages beginners, while also encouraging those with experience to explore their edge and approach practice with a beginner’s mind.

As co-creators of SoundMind, Charisse M. Williams (RYT-200) guides participants through the poses, while Okorie Johnson, creator of the Epi.phony solo cello series, weaves a real-time, improvised, soulful score with the poses. Together they deliver the participants to a long deep savasana (corpse pose) at the end of class.

Rental mats available for $2. All other props will be provided. Please arrive early to find your space and settle in; class will begin promptly at 3pm.
