April Awakening {Challenge}: Begins Sunday April 2, 2018

Did you begin the year with intention, clarity, and the best laid plans to create powerful shifts and make this the year that you awakened to the depth + vastness of your life/potential… or something like that— {ha}!Only to have the day-to-day, real life, hustle and bustle, old stories and habits… or just the natural desire to stay in and keep warm during winter take over that intention?

We understand.

Awakening to the life we want and deserve doesn’t come from will alone. It doesn’t come from force, or from berating ourselves for our inability to “just make it happen.”

We believe it does come from intention, action, commitment, and being in supported+ accountable community. This needs to happen consistently.

The earth is awakening, now. The youth are awakening, now. Culturally, an awakening is called for and coming-

Or even more basic- We are personally awakening to a little bit of a “whew, wait, the year is almost one fourth of the way gone moment “ and we want to BE in the moment, consciously creating what we desire vs. look back and wonder where the time went.

Welcome to our April AWAKENING {challenge}

Do you have to come everyday? No. Awakening does require focus, intentionality and commitment. You’ll practice at least four times a week and so will we.

Do you have to be “good” at yoga? Nope. Just willing to try practices that might not be your jam. Everyone has a speed that feels natural to him or her. You may always be drawn to yin yoga. During our Awakening, we invite you to Flow and Be Still. Always want to “go hard” and move and move and move? We invite you to be still in restorative class or to meditate.

Awakening happens in unexpected places.

Do you have to like meditation? Nada. But study after study and real life stories continue to prove that meditation is GOOD for all of us and we recommend you practice it at least once a week with Meryl.
Do you have to show up for yourself? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. This may mean choosing your practice vs. sending one more email some days.

Real Life. Real Love.
A 3-week Meditation series on Wholehearted Living
Mondays
Feb 5 – 19
6:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
*make-up class, Feb. 26
February’s meditation series is an exploration of Brene Brown’s teachings in The Gifts of Imperfection. This series invites us to wake up each morning and think as Brown invites us to –
“No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough… Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.”
Together, we will explore three tenets of wholehearted living –
Week 1: Courage – what does it mean to be courageous in my daily life? How do I sit with vulnerability?
Week 2: Compassion – how can I more fully recognize our shared humanity? What does it mean to truly listen?
Week 3: Connection – in what ways do I prevent real connection in my life? Can I more fully feel seen, heard and valued?
This course will combine Brown’s teachings and traditional meditation techniques to help us look at the ways we inadvertently disconnect ourselves from the joys of living the full human experience, as well as offer tools for stepping into our lives more fully.
Register for the full 3-week series: $45/person (only $15/class!)
Or use your class card to drop-in.************

SoundMind: yoga, cello, meditation

Open to Grace

SoundMind combines yoga and the full, resonant sounds of live cello to create a powerful and soul stirring class experience. The gentle instruction, sounds and vibrations emanating from the cello have been known to guide students to new depths in their practice.

Charisse, who is 4 months into recovery from surgery on her achilles tendon has been exploring grace a lot lately, and is bringing this lens to her teaching and practice on and off the mat. This edition of SoundMind will use the theme of “grace” as a tool to help us approach our practice with positive self-talk, less perfectionism, more patience and compassion.

SoundMind is an all-levels classical yoga class that welcomes and encourages beginners, while also encouraging those with experience to explore their edge and approach practice with a beginner’s mind.

As co-creators of SoundMind, Charisse M. Williams (RYT-200) guides participants through the poses, while Okorie Johnson, creator of the Epi.phony solo cello series, weaves a real-time, improvised, soulful score with the poses. Together they deliver the participants to a long deep savasana (corpse pose) at the end of class.

Be Chill Challenge 2018

Be Chill Challenge 2018

Y’all know we value CHILL. For real. We are a bunch of stressed out, overworked adults raising stressed out, over-scheduled children. We just survived what felt like an incredibly hurtful, tumultuous year, and in 2018 something MUST. CHANGE.Change doesn’t come from will alone. It doesn’t come from force, or from berating ourselves for our inability to get it all done. It doesn’t come from finding some mythical balance {ha!}.

We believe it comes from introducing some level of softness. A moment or two of not striving.  Listening. Simply being still for a minute or two. Moving with kindness as the motivator rather than fear. We believe it comes from showing up, as we are- AND in community.

No one can do our inner and outer work for us, yet we cannot do this alone.

Begin 2018 with us to create lasting change.

Your 200-hour training prepared you to guide your students through an in-depth yoga practice. Now, it is time to give them the next step. Meditation.
The research surrounding meditation shows it is powerfully potent, physically and chemically changing your brain, boosting immune function and increases positive emotions.
Sacred Chill {West}’s Meditation Immersion is designed for Yoga Teachers looking to incorporate meditation into their classes as well as for those wanting to deepen a personal meditation practice. In this 15-hour course, you will:
• Experience extended meditations
• Learn how to modify meditative postures for comfort
• Discover the differences between the most common meditation styles
• Create your own guided meditations
• Find your meditative voice through practice teaches with the guidance of a mentor
Expect to walk away comfortable with a silent, at-home meditation practice as well as ready to incorporate mini-meditations into your yoga classes. This is part of our CEU program, designed to give experienced teachers additional tools to create a speciality as a professional teacher.

Mantra Meditation With Ian Boccio
In this weekend intensive we will dive deep into the foundations of mantra meditation, one of the most ancient techniques for consciousness expansion that we still have access to today. Mantra meditation uses the sound vibrations of Sanskrit, the sacred language of India, to create energy connections between our own finite, conditional consciousness and the expanded, cosmic consciousness of those beings we call deities. Through these connections, our own consciousness begins to evolve and we are able to rediscover our true nature in the infinite and unconditional. There are two great traditions of mantra meditation, the Sanātana Dharma (from which yoga and Hinduism emerge), and the Buddha Dharma (in its later stages of the Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna), and both will be explored equally. This intensive will cover the following topics:• What Is a Mantra? A basic definition and examination of the history of this practice.• Sacred Languages. Understanding the difference between Sanskrit and an ordinary, secular language.• The Sanskrit Alphabet. Learning to vibrate the sounds correctly for maximum effectiveness.• Daily Practice Techniques. Counting with a mālā, number of repetitions, preparing to meditate, etc.• What Is a Deity? Defining the terms deva, devi, buddha and bodhisattva, and understanding how we relate to those beings.• Root Mantras. The first step in connecting to a deity. We will practice root mantras for Gaṇeśa, Sarasvatī, Lakṣmī, Durgā and Śiva, from the Sanātana Dharma, plus Avalokiteśvara, Māñjuśrī, Vajrapāni and Tārā from the Buddha Dharma.• Tantra Philosophy. The underlying cosmology and mechanics of modern mantra meditation practice that explains how and why this practice actually works, including practice of mantras that support the concepts.• Sanskrit and the Chakras. An overview of the anatomy of the subtle body and how the vibrations of Sanskrit mantras interact with it.• Healing Mantras. The relationship between healing and consciousness. Explanation and practice of the White Tārā, Medicine Buddha and Mṛtyunjaya mantras.• Advanced Sādhana, Creating specific practices to achieve goals, charging the mālā, etc.

• The Gāyatrī Mantra. The most ancient mantra that we still know today, which draws Divine Light into the mind to illuminate our consciousness.

The Yoga Nidra module is part of our Art of Chill Series: An immersion and Self Care Experience for Yoga Teachers
This is part of our CEU program, designed to give teachers who currently hold a 200/500-certification additional tools to create chill space for self and students.

About our Yoga Nidra Module: Yoga Nidra, or “dynamic sleep,” is a unique approach to deep relaxation and meditation that can be practiced with little or no yogic experience, yet it encompasses the full breadth of yoga psychology and meditative insight. Yoga Nidra is typically ‘delivered’ to a group by a trained instructor, though it may also be employed in a dyadic setting (e.g., in place of or as an adjunct to counseling, psychotherapy, energy work, etc.) and, ultimately, may be self-initiated.

Yoga Nidra helps foster a sense of wholeness and wellbeing in every moment by inviting practitioners to embody, accept and transform the conditions that lay at the roots of suffering. As such, Yoga Nidra can become the foundation through which we engage with the world and embark on our journey of healing and self-discovery.

This comprehensive, nourishing 15-hour teacher training and retreat-style experience will feature gentle movement, breath work, and several opportunities to both receive and guide the immensely restorative, deep relaxation of Yoga Nidra. The immersion will also feature integrative discussion/Q&A on the philosophy and clinical research supporting the practice, including how it relates to waking and dream life (e.g., lucid dreaming), releasing anxiety, healing insomnia, overcoming nightmares, etc. You will also learn:

• A succinct yet adaptable method for guiding Yoga Nidra within diverse audiences.
• To integrate Yoga Nidra into yoga classes, health care clinics, private practice, etc.
• The philosophical foundations of Yoga Nidra, and how it relates to Yoga, Tantra, Buddhism & Transpersonal Psychology
• How to connect with yourself and others, foster empathy, develop clear boundaries and shed unwanted energies
• Tools for deepening your own practice, finding your voice, and speaking authentically from your heart
• To relax more deeply into the present moment, let go of your fears, revitalize yourself and tap into vast creative resources
