Meditation Teacher Training

January 23, 2019
The Meditation module is part of our Art of Chill Series: An Immersion and Self Care Experience for Yoga Teachers. This is part of our CEU program, designed to give teachers who currently hold a 200/500-certification additional tools to create chill space for self and students.
Weekend schedule:
Friday 7:45-9:15pm
Saturday 1:00-7:00pm
Sunday 8:30-3:30pm
The traditional yoga practice was originally designed to support extended periods of meditation, and yet most of us, as yoga teachers, received very little formal training in meditation. Your 200-hour training prepared you to guide your students through an in-depth yoga practice. Now, it is time to give them the next step. Meditation.
The research surrounding meditation shows it is powerfully potent, physically and chemically changing your brain, boosting immune function and increases positive emotions.
Sacred Chill {West}’s Meditation Immersion is designed for Yoga Teachers looking to incorporate meditation into their classes as well as for those wanting to deepen a personal meditation practice. In this 15-hour course, you will:
• Experience extended meditations
• Learn how to modify meditative postures for comfort
• Discover the differences between the most common meditation styles
• Create your own guided meditations
• Find your meditative voice through practice teaches with the guidance of a mentor
Expect to walk away comfortable with a silent, at-home meditation practice as well as ready to incorporate mini-meditations into your yoga classes. This is part of our CEU program, designed to give experienced teachers additional tools to create a speciality as a professional teacher.

December 3, 10, 17: EMERGENCE OF COMPASSION (3-week series)

The holiday season is upon us and we are often faced with
overwhelming environments and difficult family situations and our compassionate motives to stay grounded in a caring and kind social mentality can feel far-reaching. In this 3-week series we will examine the biology of compassion and utilize the empowering findings from the latest compassion research to keep us on course. We will look at the unique challenge of self-compassion and learn three keys for offering loving support to ourselves.

We will learn how to sustain openheartedness and how to overcome the common challenges of “compassion fatigue” and “compassion collapse.” Compassion can become difficult, but it is trainable, and we have the ability to broaden our compassion to ever-widening circles of people. When we can connect to a source of compassion that is altruistic, impartial and based
in tenderness, we will find the determination to emerge as our best selves and flourish this holiday season.

About Jennifer:
Jennifer Finch, M.A., LPC, NBCC, Certified Meditation Instructor

I am a psycho-therapist using the modalities of meditation, somatic experiencing and compassion to help one heal from the inside out. I am a mother of two boys (12 and
13), a devoted student of self-curiosity, occasional writer, teacher of meditation based workshops, and train the trainer programs, photographer, music snob and owner of two pugs (not specifically in that order).

The meditation spark initiated when I was in graduate school in the late 1900s and I began teaching it without a net of research or ounce of confidence in what I was doing. Now, almost three decades later, both historical and cutting- edge research support that leap of faith I took.

Oct. Series: Ordinary Grace

Mondays

October 1, 8 & 15

6:15 p.m.

Join Meryl Arnett for our October Meditation series designed to bring awareness to the beauty and grace of our everyday lives. Over the course of our 3-week series we will ignite a deeper sense of awareness to the present moment.  We will look at the spectrum of human experience – the joy, the pain, the ordinary – and explore how to be present through all of it, for within all moments lies the opportunity to be fully awake, alive and open to grace. Infuse your everyday life with sacred presence, embracing it all.

What is the Way? Ordinary mind is the Way.

Should I turn toward it or not?

If you turn toward it you turn away from it.

How can I know the Way if I don’t turn toward it?

The Way is not about knowing or not knowing…

When you reach the Way beyond doubt, it is as vast and infinite as space.

You can’t say it’s right or wrong.

~Zen koan

Holy Yoga with yoga instructor, Dominique Harmon and live music by Billboard award winning praise artist, Casey J

Holy Yoga is a Christ-centered devotional yoga practice in which scripture, prayer, and Christian music is incorporated into physical movement of the body and focused concentration of the mind.

We will move our bodies in an effort to not only release physical tension but in praise, worship, and honor of Christ.

We will focus our minds on Christ and the Word, and if you’re feeling it, lift your voice in praise along with the beautiful voice of Casey J.

This will be a slow flow to stillness and is open to all levels.  We will end with 10 minutes of Lectio Divina (prayer and meditation on scripture) and 10 minutes of quiet personal time of reflection and journaling.

We can’t wait to share this powerful praise and worship practice with you.

Birth of the Chill : Yoga, Live Jazz, and Poetry

There is sound in silence and silence in sound. There is a field of sensations that arise when musical vibrations are orchestrated in sacred observance. Enjoy an afternoon of soulful jazz layered with the richness of spoken word and gentle rhythmic movement. Learn to feel the breath in the spaces in between where light lives and the words of our unspoken histories are etched in every crevice.

Tzipporah will guide you through an all levels, gentle meditative sequence with plenty of pause for introspection, breath, exploration of inner sensations, and a deeper connection to the true essence of self, while infusing the practice with poetry to inspire further contemplation. Your practice will be enhanced by the soulful sounds of Marc Miller on bass and Trey Wright as they recreate some of Mile’s music by guitar. Both Marc and Trey are well known and accomplished Atlanta based jazz musicians who infuse and inspire the practice with he American musical tradition of jazz.

Date: June 16, 2018 4:00-6:00pm

Cost: $35

We couldn’t resist naming this experience/event after one of Miles Davis’s album, Birth of the Cool { for obvious reasons ☺} but the music for practice will be inspired by some of his more slow and sultry work, not the bop of Birth of the Cool.

SoundMind combines yoga and the full, resonant sounds of live cello to create a powerful and soul stirring class experience. The gentle instruction, sounds and vibrations emanating from the cello have been known to guide students to new depths in their practice.
Charisse, who is 4 months into recovery from surgery on her achilles tendon has been exploring grace a lot lately, and is bringing this lens to her teaching and practice on and off the mat. This edition of SoundMind will use the theme of “grace” as a tool to help us approach our practice with positive self-talk, less perfectionism, more patience and compassion.

SoundMind is an all-levels classical yoga class that welcomes and encourages beginners, while also encouraging those with experience to explore their edge and approach practice with a beginner’s mind.

As co-creators of SoundMind, Charisse M. Williams (RYT-200) guides participants through the poses, while Okorie Johnson, creator of the Epi.phony solo cello series, weaves a real-time, improvised, soulful score with the poses. Together they deliver the participants to a long deep savasana (corpse pose) at the end of class.

Rental mats available for $2. All other props will be provided. Please arrive early to find your space and settle in; class will begin promptly at 2:30pm.
